Gary Simrose - Senior Boys

Gary has coached a variety of levels from 1977 onward including youth, grade 8, Junior, Senior, club regional and college levels. His U-17 teams were Alberta Champions. He has won the prestigious New Waterford Coal Bowl twice and placed 3rd once. He coached the Vikings to 4 Zone Championships, finished second 5 times and third 5 times. He has had multiple successes at the B.C. Tournament placing 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 4th and 5th.

Gary has worked with 1000's of athletes and their families and coaches while being involved with more than 54 different basketball teams and dozens of camps, clinics and training sessions over the span of many years. This year marks the 35th year of coaching for Gary since getting started back in highschool. In working with athletes and players from kindergarten to university, girls and boys, he has developed an appreciation for students and athletes that are compeditive, dedicated and commited to achieving great things. Coach Simrose has been an assistant for five years and a head coach for 15 seasons with the senior "Vikes" prior to the 2011- 2012 year.
 
Vaughn Mueller - Junior Boys & Basic Fundamentals Coach


Vaughn has been coaching for 14 yrs. He comes from a family of 5 boys, all of which are still involved in reffereeing or coaching. Vaughn is a home grown product and played for the Vikings for five years. In his grade 12 year his team won the Zone Championship and he was named the most valuable player. He then lead his team to a bronze medal finish at the 1987 Provincial Tournament, where he was selected as a first team allstar. Upon graduation Vaughn went on to play for Grande Prairie Regional College for three years, where he helped lead the Wolves to their first ever play off birth in the ACAC. In his rookie year he captured top defensive player honours, and won the ACAC slam dunk championships. He went on to finish as one of the top rebounders in the league.Vaughn spent one year as an assistant coach with Kelly Olhauser at GPRC before moving back to Vanderhoof to assist coach Gary Simrose at NVSS, where he was a big part of three zone championships and two back to back second place finishes in the Provincial Championships.
He also coached the U-14 regional team for the past two years. Vaughn has been coaching in the grade 8 and junior ranks for the past 11 years and has thoroughly enjoyed the developmental aspects of coaching.

Jeremy Hara - Junior Development Coach

Jeremy is in his second year of coaching here at NVSS. A native of Kamloops he grew up playing basketball in Brocklehurst Secondary. He has a great nature with the kids and is an avid basketball fan and a keen student of the game. Jeremy has worked very hard with his coaching, and is currently our junior boys development coach here at NVSS.


Tyrone Reeder - Junior Boys (currently on leave)


Tyrone is a graduate of NVSS, who transferred from Northside Christian School after leading them to their first ever provincial berth in 2001.  In 2002 Tyrone played for the Vikings who won the AAProvincial Silver Medal. In 2003, he led the Vikings in scoring, assists, 3-point shooting, and freethrow percentage and was named team MVP. From 2005-2007, Tyrone earned a scholarship to play for the UBC-Okanagan Lakers. During university, Tyrone also coached an Elementary basketball team and the Grade 8 boys at Cedar Secondary School in Nanaimo. He is excited to be back at his Alma Mater coaching the  Grade 10 boys basketball team.

        
 

Eric Lytle - grade 8 Boys


Eric is a graduate of Duchess Park Secondary in Prince George. During his playing days Eric was a member of an Junior Basketball team that had a top 8 finish in the 1984 provincial championships. In the fall of 1999 Eric was offered a job in the community of Vanderhoof and jumped at the opportunity mainly due to the rich basketball history in Vanderhoof and the people involved in the program. Eric began his coaching career at NVSS in 2002 with the grade 8 team his oldest son played on. In 2005 Eric started a six year tenure as the Junior Vikings coach.
